LEWISTON — SeniorsPlus has listed upcoming July classes. Classes are held at the SeniorsPlus Education Center, 8 Falcon Road, unless noted. Hearing-assistive equipment is available.

Maine Author Series: 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7. Author is Dean Bennett, book is “Ghost Buck: The Legacy of One Man’s Family and its Hunting Traditions.” The book focuses on family and hunting as a lifestyle. It’s also about the evolution of Greenwood in Oxford County: the clearing of the forest, the planting of orchards and fields, the arrival and abandonment of county roads, and the appearance, then disappearance, of villages as railroads changed course. Bennett recalls hunting triumphs and defeats, including the elusive Ghost Buck that haunts the camp’s surrounding forest.

Researching Your Family History: Those interested can take this one-on-one hour-long class at 9 a.m., 10:15 a.m., noon, or 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 19 or 26. Carroll N. Holmes will use several genealogical web sites to find people in the family tree. Those attending should bring whatever information they may have, such as names, dates and places.

Android for Beginners: Tuesday, July 12. Choice of 10 a.m. to noon or 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. This hands-on session will go step by step through the basics so users feel confident to continue exploring their devices independently. Email, internet searching, the camera, calendars and apps are just a few of the possible topics. Those attending should bring their fully charged Android tablet. Instructor is Jill Spencer.

How Our Nutrition Needs Change as We Age: 2 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 13. Instructor Paul Drowns will teach what people can eat to get more energy, stay focused, sleep better and keep bones healthy. Drowns will bring recipes and a snack to share.

Travel Tips for Seniors at Home & Abroad: 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 14. Instructor Chloe JonPaul will teach attendees how to make their next trip safe, less expensive and more enjoyable. Those in attendance will discover packing methods, what they need to do before they go, and how to keep safe. They will also find out how to make their travel money go further.

AARP Smart Driver: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 19. Drivers 55 and older who complete this class are eligible for discounts on their auto insurance for three years. Attendees should bring their driver’s license and a lunch. Instructor is George Davis. Cost is $20, $15 for AARP members, who should bring their membership cards.

Windows 10: Choice of 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 20, or Thursday, July 27. Class will teach those considering making the jump to Microsoft Windows 10 things they need to know, including how to stay where they are, how to roll back within 30 days of installation, and how to make the most of Windows 10 for those already using it. Instructor is Tim Verrill.

Learning about Hypnosis!: 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21. Instructor Susan S. Kane will teach attendees how hypnotherapy can help people change behaviors and solve problems of their choosing. She will distribute researched and evidenced-based facts. There will be a short guided meditation toward the end of the session for those interested.

Medicare Basics: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21. This class will teach attendees the basics and timelines of the Medicare system, including when they need to sign up and for what, and ways to save money.

City at Sea: 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at West Paris Public Library and 218 Fairbanks Road, Farmington. Registration required by calling 207-794-4010. Instructor Alan Elze will discuss spending six months on a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in the Pacific Ocean. He will talk about how it’s a small city at sea: 6,000 people, over 70 aircrafts, 4½ acres of American freedom, thousands of miles from anywhere.

Ongoing programs:

Gentle Morning Chair Yoga for Seniors: 9 to 10 a.m. Mondays through Aug. 15. There will not be classes July 4 and 11. The class is designed to increase vitality, gain a deeper sense of balance, and help attendees find their inner calm. Combines meditation, warm-ups, light stretches and gentle yoga postures. Instructor is Tisha Bremner. Cost is $40 for eight weeks, $8 per class on a drop-in basis.

Total Strength and Balance Training: 11:15 a.m. to noon Mondays, 11:30 to 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. Classes are for everyone — beginner or advanced — who are interested in improving strength, balance and bone density. Instructor is Linn Morin.
