Against Rogers Post on Tuesday night, they got on 23 times.

Of those 23, 11 came across the plate to score, leading Pastime to an 11-1 win in six innings over rival Rogers Post. Pitcher Kyle Bourget helped lead the way for Pastime, giving up just one run on four hits while striking out seven.

“Our word on this team is to compete for seven innings, and there’s no one that really competes better than Bourget out there,” Brown said. “Our plan was to go with him until he was tired, or until his pitch-count got up, and he did a really good job of hitting his spots and a great job of keeping them off-balance.”

Bourget was great on the mound, but also scored once while drawing three walks.

“I came out and started throwing my fastball well,” Bourget said. “I spotted it well, I mostly threw my fastball the whole game, changed up speeds for my changeup and curveball, but the fastball was just spot-on today … I didn’t get much at the plate but that’s alright because the whole team hit well.”

Pastime opened the scoring in the first inning after a Brock Belanger single to right moved the stealing Gage Cote from first to third, and a wild throw from right field led Cote home for a 1-0 lead.

That was the only run Gavin Bates would give up in his three innings on the mound, and the only run Pastime would score until the fourth.

Tyler Libby, the second of five pitchers used by Rogers on the night, came into the game and walked Austin Wing to start the fourth inning. After a balk moved Wing to second, that was enough for center fielder Hunter Landry, who doubled to right-center and drove in Pastime’s second run of the game.

Walks were a problem for Rogers, which gave up twelve total.

“We didn’t have our best game as evident of our pitchers’ inconsistency to command the strike zone,” Rogers Post coach Dave Jordan said. “You always try to take something from each outing and learn from them. We will do that and move on quickly from this game.”

In the fifth inning, Pastime got on the board three more times. Rogers pitcher Ben Harris walked Cote, whom Belanger then singled home after the shortstop had advanced on a wild pitch.

After walking the bases loaded, Rogers shortstop Austin Cox bobbled a routine ground ball with two outs that led to a Pastime score to increase the lead to four. Harris then walked another run in and was pulled from the game.

The sixth inning didn’t go any better for Rogers, as they gave up six more runs in the top of the inning, putting the final nails in the coffin for the game.

“We’re a team that likes to get on base,” Brown said. “We found ways to get on base and we found ways to score runs.”

Rogers scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning when center fielder Tyler Blanchard tripled into left field, followed by a long double by outfielder Drew Lashua to drive him in.

Rogers, 3-1, will face Locke Mills on Thursday, while Pastime, 5-0, sees Smith-Tobey on Thursday afternoon.
