FARMINGTON — Director of athletics, fitness, and recreation Julie Davis announceed the hiring of Kat McKay as the University of Maine at Farmington’s new head softball coach.
“We are most excited about the leadership, network and experience Kat brings to our program,” Davis said. “We are certain she has the skill set to guide our softball program to excel in all areas, while also contributing to our department and related University operations.”
McKay brings over 10years of coaching experience to the Beaver program. She spent four years building a program as head softball coach at Poland Regional High School. While at Poland, McKay also served as an assistant in the girls’ varsity basketball program as well as head freshmen girls’ basketball coach for the Knights.
Prior to Poland, she was the head softball and junior varsity soccer coach at Saint Dominic Academy for two seasons. Before taking over as head softball coach for the Saints, she was the junior varsity softball coach for three seasons.
McKay was an assistant softball coach at UMF in 2015.

Bessey Motors 5, Franklin County 2
FARMINGTON — Bessey Motors (1-4) chipped away at Franklin County (0-6) all game before slipping away with a 5-2 win in an American Legion baseball game Thursday.
It was a 2-2 game before Bessey broke it open with three runs in sixth and seventh innings.
Troy Johnson got the win on the mound for Bessey. Brady LaFrance (two hits) added an RBI triple. Chickering Emery had two hits.
For Franklin County, Colton Lawrence belted an RBI double. Tom Wing had three hits and catcher Ethan Andrews and Ryan Pratt each had two hits.
