AUBURN — Augusta gave Rogers Post in the first game, but Rogers ran away with it in Game 2 of American Legion doubleheader Saturday evening.

In Game 1, Rogers slipped away with a 4-3 win. Brandon Varney got the win on the mound after relieving Lou Jensen. Drew Lashua had three hits and Austin Cox hammered out two. Augusta’s Cam Brochu doubled.

Rogers Post used 10 hits to subdue Augusta and didn’t make an error.

Game 2 as entirely a different story.

Rogers Post tied the game at 5-5 after four inning before erupting with nine runs to shelve Augusta, 16-5.

Ben Harris got the win on the mound after relieving Gavin Bates.

Rogers Post had 11 hits and Austin Cox and Drew Lashua each doubled. Cox had three hits and Lashua had two and drove in two runs. 

For Augusta, Quin Stebbins and Dylan Presby each doubled.

Bessey Motors sweeps

PARIS — Brady LaFrance had a big day for Bessey Motors in the Saturday sweep of Highland Green in American Legion doubleheader.

He went 2-for-3 in both games. In the first game, he had an RBI in the 7-3 victory while in the second game he had a double, a triple and two runs scored in the 3-2 victory.

Troy Johnson had an RBI in the first game as Bessey Motors scored three in the fourth and two in the fifth. Blake Slicer picked up the win on the mound.

Kaileb Hawke scored two of Highland Green’s runs.

In the second game, it was a pitching duel between Bessey’s Bailey West and Hawke. The game was scoreless until the third when Highland jumped out to a 2-0 lead on an error and a past ball. Bessey Motors responded in the fourth on RBIs from Emery Chickering and Trent Spaulding to tie the game 2-2. 

Bessey took the lead in the fifth on a sac fly from Matt Smith.
