BETHEL — The Bethel Outing Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission it is to provide affordable access for all to cross-country skiing and people powered sports such as hiking, bicycling running, paddling, swimming and roller skiing. Being true to their mission, the Club will be hosting a running race on MollyOckett Day, Saturday, July 16. This event is for the entire family regardless on age, ability and fitness.
For those 15 years and older and ready for the challenge, there is a five mile race. In addition, there is a mile race for those who want an introduction to road racing. Kids, ages 14 and under can participate in an one mile race. Children as young as four years old have run/walked this race with an encouraging adult at their side. If running the longer events is beyond a child’s ability there is a Diaper Dash for youngest in the family. Crawlers and young walkers are encouraged to try their skill on a short course at Dr. Moses Mason House in Bethel. For more information go to www.mollyockettdays.com/races.html
For those who stick around after the race, there will be prizes and a bib draw followed by a parade at 11 a.m., crafts, food and vendors on the Common in Bethel. Watch the North American Wildlife Encounter for a close up and personal view of some amazing North American wildlife, bring a frog and participate in the the frog jumping contest, or sluice for gems all day. Listen to live music, survey the arts and crafts, partake in local foods and spend the day socializing with friends and neighbors. The day ends with fireworks at the Bethel Inn Resort.
