AUBURN — The McG United Soccer Academy 2016 will take place at the Lewiston-Auburn Youth Soccer Association fields located behind the Auburn Middle School from July 25-July 29. This teaching academy is for students from age 5-15. The 5-7 year-olds will participate from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The older players will participate from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Elite and United School of Goal Keepers will continue until 3 p.m. except on Friday.
On hand will be Goal Keeper specialist “Butch” Dow who has trained more than a dozen All Conference and All State keepers in his twenty five plus years of coaching. Eric Wagner, noted men’s coach at Swarthmore College will coach the Elite Middle School session, which is new this year. Don Plourde and Chris Albert round out the rest of the professional staff assisted by varsity level high school and college players. The academy is directed by Mike McGraw, Lewiston High School boy’s varsity soccer coach, whose team won their first state of Maine championship last fall. He’s a five-time coach of the year for the state of Maine and this past fall named New England coach of the year.
The Elite Middle School program is designed with the player who wishes to get a start on the upcoming season. The training will involve those skills and exercises that will help a boy or girl compete during the tryouts for this upcoming season’s team. It will also be additional training for players on club and travel teams during the 2016 fall season.
