JAY — A Jewell Street couple are accused of selling and distributing heroin and possessing other drugs, including opiate prescription drugs, Police Detective Michael Mejia said Tuesday.

Police arrested Shane Dineen, 29, and his wife, Danielle Dineen, 29, at their residence Monday night on warrants charging them each with a felony count of aggravated trafficking of schedule W drugs-heroin, Mejia said. They were also each arrested on three counts of misdemeanor unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and a misdemeanor charge of violation of condition of release, he said.

Jay police have been conducting an ongoing investigation and obtained warrants for their arrests, Mejia said. Search warrants were executed last week and the investigation continues.

The trafficking charge is elevated due to the proximity of the Jay Church Street Playground on Church Street, the next street over from Jewell Street. The playground is designated as a drug-free safe zone under state law.

A conviction on the aggravated trafficking charge is punishable by a maximum of 30 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

At the time of his arrest, Shane Dineen was out on a conditional release after an arrest in March on a charge of possession of heroin, Mejia said.

Danielle Dineen was out on bail on an unrelated matter. She was arrested on a warrant on June 8.

The Dineens were being held without bail Tuesday afternoon at the Franklin County jail in Farmington, according to a corrections officer.
