FARMINGTON — The One Day Wanderers Club, a senior hiking club sponsored by the Farmington Recreation Department, is ready to restart its weekend hikes.
The club started last year when 30 people began taking hikes together.
The hikes are ranked as intermediate difficulty but offer some challenging terrain and stunning views.
A variety of itineraries are offered and participants are encouraged to hike at their own pace. At the peak of each hike, the group stops for a cup of tea.
The first trip is planned for July 22 to Pico Hill Lookout, a mile and a half trip, in Industry. The group leaves the trailhead of each hike at 8:30 a.m. sharp.
Other hikes planned include:
• Aug. 12: Mount Phillip Trail, Rome, 1.3 miles;
• Aug. 27: Maine Huts-Flagstaff Hut, Carrying Place, 3.6 miles;
• Sept. 16: Piazza Rock, Sandy River Plantation, 4.1 miles; and
• Oct. 7: Bald Mountain, Oquossoc, 3 miles.
A “brutal” 4.6-mile bonus hike is set for Oct. 21 to Whitecap Mountain in Rumford.
Those interested in hiking with the group can register at the Farmington Community Center or call 778-3464 for more information.
