PORTLAND (AP) — The attorney for a Portland social worker charged with having a sexual relationship with a patient says his client has agreed not to practice until the criminal charges are resolved.

The Portland Press Herald (http://bit.ly/29MuCCv ) reported that 51-year-old Kelly O’Rourke’s attorney, Rob Andrews, says he expects the Maine State Board of Social Worker Licensure to accept a consent agreement at a meeting scheduled for July 18 that will prevent his client from practicing.

Andrews has said his client was charged with a felony under Maine’s gross sexual assault law. The law prohibits a social worker from engaging in a sexual act with current clients.

O’Rourke’s July 1 arrest came six months after a complaint regarding the relationship was filed with the board. In that time, O’Rourke continued his practice.
