SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador — Lewiston native Isaiah Harris wrapped up his outdoor track and field season with a win at the North America Central America Caribbean Association Under 23 Championships.
The Penn State true freshman earned a gold medal for the United States in his signarure event, the 800-meter run, by finishing in 1 minute, 47.52 seconds in the finals Sunday.
Harris’ U.S. teammate, Chris Sanders, placed second with a time of 1:47.77.
Earlier this month, Harris placed sixth in the finals at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Oregon, falling short of a claiming spot at next month’s Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, by three places.
Last month, Harris placed fourth in the 800 at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
He was the Big Ten indoor and outdoor champion in the 800 during his first season at Penn State.
