DIXFIELD — The Regional School Unit 10 board of directors have approved the final reading of a policy that governs a procedure for dealing with possible student concussions.
Superintendent Craig King said Monday that the policy calls for doctor approval before a student can resume play. Also, teachers and coaches must be informed of symptoms to look for in a student who may have experienced a concussion.
Coaches and nurses are directed to work together on any potential concussion injury.
In other matters, the board approved the transfer of up to $50,000 from various accounts to buildings and grounds repairs.
King said the work will be done at Hartford-Sumner Elementary School and Mountain Valley Middle School.
Also, the board acted on a facility-naming policy that calls for the person or group requesting a specific name to present the proposal to the Buildings and Grounds Committee.
If approved by that committee, then the proposal will go before the entire board for action.
King said eight open positions were filled this week, with eight more expected within a day or so. He said that leaves a librarian and several elementary and special education positions yet to be filled.
These openings were caused by the retirement of nine teachers and about half a dozen staffers who took jobs closer to their homes.
King’s final RSU 10 board meeting will be on Aug. 8. After that, he will begin his new position as superintendent of SAD 15 in Gray/New Gloucester.
Former RSU 9 Superintendent Michael Cormier will take over the reins of RSU 10 until a permanent replacement is named.
