The Lewiston city council unanimously approved action that would allow the Bridge Street Bridge to be reopened, with restrictions, late this week or early next week. The bridge, located between High and Spring streets, near Central Maine Medical Center, was closed in June after a state inspection revealed structural problems. Councilors sided with residents like 82-year-old Margaret Woodhead and business owner Fred Hall of Hall & Knight, who said the bridge closing presented access and public safety problems.
