DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Outdoor Market Planning Committee continued to finalize the schedule for its upcoming Sunday, Aug. 21, event, including a 5k run/walk that will help kick off the day.
Planning Committee member Kristi Holmquist said the 5-kilometer run/walk, which has been a facet of the Outdoor Market for many years, will begin at 9 a.m. at the corner of Third and Main streets, the same time and location as the inaugural Outdoor Market parade.
“At the front of the parade, we’ll have our 5k racers lined up,” Holmquist said. “When the parade starts, the 5k racers will take off and continue along their own route.”
Deb Morang, who co-chairs the committee with Leslie Skibitsky, said that a race route had not been finalized, because they have to make sure the race route does not interfere with the parade route.
Skibitsky said those interested in participating in the race may preregister at the Dirigo Wellness Center or the Dixfield Town Office.
Registration is $15 if completed before the day of the event, and $20 on the day of the event, Skibitsky said.
T-shirts will be given to the first 50 people who register for the 5k, and trophies will be presented to the fastest man and woman of the race, as well as to others who finish at the top of their respective age groups.
Holmquist said during Wednesday morning’s committee meeting that the Outdoor Market would also feature a new story time for children on the lawn outside Ludden Memorial Library.
Holmquist said children who attend will receive free books donated by Literacy for ME, until supplies last.
