LEWISTON — Police said Tuesday that they charged a 17-year-old girl with assaulting and robbing a cab driver Monday morning.
Lt. Mark Cornelio said police arrested the teen and took her to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center before shuttling her to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland for detention.
A driver for LA Cab Service in Auburn reported Monday that a passenger who stepped out of the back seat of his taxi at Birch and Bartlett streets shortly after 2 a.m. was standing at his door and asking whether he could change a $100 bill. When he opened his money bag on his lap to look for change, she punched him, grabbed the bag that contained $107 and fled, he told police.
The girl was arrested and charged in a July 11 robbery of a pizza delivery driver at roughly the same address, Cornelio said.
Her case will be forwarded to the Androscoggin County District Attorney’s Office.
The cab driver was not seriously injured, Cornelio said.
