DIXFIELD — Regional School Unit 10 interim Superintendent Michael Cormier said at Monday night’s board meeting that the district has received four applications for the superintendent position.
The vacancy was prompted by the resignation of Craig King, who left for a similar position in the Gray-New Gloucester district.
The board set Sept. 6 to interview the candidates. The board hopes to appoint a new superintendent at its meeting Sept. 12, or it will hold a special meeting.
Cormier, a retired superintendent from RSU 9 in Farmington, said he has signed on to lead RSU 10 until Sept. 30.
“I want candidates interviewed before I leave,” he told the board.
“You have a lot of great things happening in your school system,” he told the board. “You need to keep cooking.”
“You need one good candidate,” he said.
“It’s amazing how much people know about people,” he added. “This is one of the most important decisions a board can make.”
Board Vice Chairman Jerry Wiley said RSU 10’s search must move along.
“There are 18 or 19 (superintendent) positions open statewide,” he said.
Several board members volunteered to serve on the screening and interview committee, along with three central office employees, three staff representatives, and three administrators.
Classes resume Aug. 31.
