WILTON — Police said a local man is charged with assaulting a family member and choking a veteran with post-traumatic stress disorder with whom he lived.
Brian Bitting, 36, was arrested Saturday on a charge of assault on an older family member, Police Chief Heidi Wilcox said.
After further investigation, Bitting was arrested Wednesday on a charge of aggravated assault for choking a veteran with PTSD, Wilcox said.
Both victims are dependent on care and have limited resources, she said. The veteran has been taken to a shelter, she said.
Police were told the veteran’s dog was kicked across a room. The dog has been removed from the home until housing can be found for the owner.
As of Thursday morning, Bitting remained at Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington.
