WILTON — Five new businesses recently received permit approvals to open in town.
CDL Maine is ready to open by mid-September, owners Miguel Ibarguen and Ben Bourassa said following a recent Planning Board meeting.
The company sells maple syrup equipment and supplies for maple syrup producers all across the state, Ibarguen said. Customers range from small operations of 60 tree taps to larger sites with up to 70,000 tree taps, he said.
Last fall, a plot next to Dutch Treat on Routes 2 and 4 was cleared and permits were given to construct a storage building on the property. The town needed to vote on a zoning change before a commercial operation could be established there. The company was given unanimous approval by the Planning Board to start once it was rezoned.
Two other businesses were given change of use approvals by the Planning Board at Western Maine Development Group LLC, the site of the former Bass Shoe factory on Weld Road.
“Tim Lovett of Lovett Woodworks, currently located in Portland, has purchased Maine Made, located in Rumford, and will be merging both companies. They will set up shop in the Western Maine Development complex,” Town Manager Rhonda Irish said.
Lovett Woodworking may have the potential to create jobs, said Gil Reed of Western Maine Development Group.
Irish said Thursday she expects to learn more about any potential employees in the coming week.
A second company, Gray’s Trucking, plans to use a stand-alone building located on the Western Maine Development property, Reed said. The space will likely be used more for storage than retail space, he said.
Moonlight Motors and Carrier Welding Fabrication are other new businesses, but did not require Planning Board review, Irish said.
Moonlight Motors, owned by Zackery Roy of Wilton, opened earlier this month at 701 U.S. Route 2, the former site of D&D Auto. Roy specializes in used vehicle sales.
Carrier Welding Fabrication is opening offices and work space at 469 Depot St., Irish said.
After Nathan Carrier spent years developing a strong reputation in the welding and fabrication industry on his own, he and Andrew Goodwin are establishing a corporation and permanent place of business, according to Carrier Welding Fabrication’s website.
