My pet peeve right now is people crossing the street (not in crosswalks) and forcing cars to stop for them. There are designated crosswalks for people to use. Cars do stop and give people, who are waiting to cross, the opportunity to do so. I do not have a problem with that.

I do have a problem with people who cross wherever they want and where they do not have the right-of-way, or who are crossing against the light, then give a driver a dirty look as they force the driver to slow down so as to not run over them. Many of those jaywalkers are on their phones and not even looking or paying any attention to the traffic. They must think they are entitled to cross, and drivers must be the ones to yield.

Some walkers are very disrespectful and use an obscene gesture as a thank you to drivers who stop to let them cross. Others drag themselves across the street at a snail’s pace, continuing to chat away on their phones or with others with them.

I hate to say it, but if people crossing the streets don’t follow the rules, then heaven help them if they get hit. It is their issue.

In closing, if drivers are still going to have to stop for people crossing the streets, then people should, at least, have the courtesy to cross in properly designated areas.
