FARMINGTON — Ballot clerks here are holding two voter registration days at the University of Maine at Farmington prior to Election Day on Nov. 8.
Registration days will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, and from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Olsen Student Center on South Street.
The registration days are for those who have not registered to vote in Farmington and plan to, or just want to check to see if they are registered.
It is an effort to cut down on new voter registrations at the polls on the day of the election, Ballot Clerk Shane Cote said. During the 2012 presidential election, the lines were very long, he said.
There were 352 new voter registrations that were processed on the 2012 Election Day in Farmington, Town Clerk Leanne Dickey said.
The Franklin County Democratic and Republican committees and the UMF Democratic and Republican committees have been contacted about the voter registration days.
People coming into register will need to bring a bill, a piece of mail with a physical address on it, or a car registration with an address on it. They should also provide a picture ID, Dickey said.
“Our goal is to register as many as we can before Election Day to make things go smoother that day,” she said.
