1936 – 2016

SABATTUS — Sister Marie Bibiane (Claudette) Roy, O.P. died Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Dominican Sisters Convent, Sabattus, where she resided for the past six months.

She was the daughter of Rosaire and Anita (Bolduc) Roy, both deceased.

After completing her elementary and high school education in Lewiston, she entered the Dominican Sisters of the Roman Congregation in Mortefontaine, France. Following her initial religious formation, she professed her vows as a Dominican Sister in 1955.

Her love of education led to a ministry of teaching English, religion, scripture and art in different parts of the country including St. Peter’s School and St. Dominic High School, Lewiston; also in Brookline, Mass.; Tempe, Phoenix and Tuscon, Ariz. She also worked at the Kino Institute in Phoenix as media resource director. Lastly, she served as pastoral associate at St. Clement of Rome Parish in Sun City, Ariz., where she retired in 2013. She returned to Maine in 2016 and lived at the Dominican Sisters Convent in Sabattus, where she enjoyed the countryside.

Sister Marie Bibiane’s interests included photography. She was an artist at heart, had a keen eye and loved nature which she shared through her photography and handmade cards. She studied computer science and she applied new computer technology to her photography.

She is survived by her sister, Rita Gillitzer and her husband, Dennis, residing in Sun City, Ariz.; nieces and nephews; many friends; and her sisters in her Dominican community.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her sister, Diane.
