JAY — Police are investigating a break-in at the recycling building at the Transfer Station on Route 4 that occurred late Wednesday or early Thursday.
A steel door was pried open and broken to get inside, Sgt. Russell Adams said.
A small amount of cash was taken, he said.
Town employees discovered the missing money when they arrived at work Thursday morning.
The break-in was reported to their supervisor, John Johnson, director of Public Works, who reported it to police at 7:49 a.m., Adams said.
He estimated $250 damage to the door.
It is the second time since July that employees have found cash missing from the station when they have arrived at work.
On July 20, they discovered that less than $200 was missing from an office area.
No one has been charged in that case, according to Adams.
