WILTON — The Board of Selectpersons approved work on the stairs and wall of the High Street parking lot this week.

The board approved $60,000 for the work as part of the Downtown Revitalization project. The sum of $20,000, will come from the $400,000 Downtown Revitalization grant received through the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development. The rest will be taken from the capital paving account, which has about $49,000 in it.

The granite stairs and work on the wall were included in the initial revitalization work but were cut because of budget constraints. As the work progressed, other changes were made freeing up some funds, Town Manager Rhonda Irish said.

The stairs are not up to code and the town can not continue to delay the work, she said.

In other business, the board set a special town meeting for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Town Office to vote on transferring money from the Comfort Inn Tax Increment Financing District for debt relief. Voters will be asked to transfer $30,000 for debt on a Fire Department truck and $15,000 for a portion of the annual loan payment of Phase 1 of the Sewer Department renovation.

A transfer of funds for debt requires voter approval. These items will appear on the annual June town meeting warrant next year, she said.

Work on the retaining wall at the foot of Wilson Lake and a wall at Kineowatha Park is expected to start Wednesday, Oct. 12, Irish said. It’s expected to take about three weeks. Ripa Stoneworks LLC of New Sharon will do the work.
