ROXBURY — A smoldering fire inside Central Maine Power’s Roxbury substation control house around 2 p.m. Tuesday disrupted power to 4,700 customers in Andover, Roxbury and Rangeley, according to CMP spokeswoman Gail Rice.
CMP workers restored power to Rangeley-area customers within half an hour by switching the electrical feed to a different line, but they were unable to fix the burned substation equipment and brought in a mobile substation, Rice said.
It took workers until 1 a.m. Wednesday to restore power to the rest of the customers in Andover and Roxbury due to the complexity of installing and testing the mobile substation.
“Considering how complex that process is, we were pleased to get it done by 1 a.m.,” she said.
She said it would “take quite a while to get that equipment fixed and we still don’t know exactly what caused the problem; we’re still investigating.”
The mobile substation will remain on site at the Roxbury substation control house until the equipment is repaired, Rice said.
