BANGOR — Dawson Stevens and Ryland VanDecker took turns running the ball effectively, and the Oxford Hills/Buckfield defense played stout in the Vikings’ 47-0 win over Bangor in a Class A North football game Friday night.
Stevens ran for 139 yards on 10 carries, while VanDecker added 96 on 15 rushes. All seven of the Vikings’ (4-4) touchdowns came on the ground.
Connor Truman started the scoring, with a 1-yard run in the first quarter. VanDecker ran in from eight yards out and Levi Brett 36 yards for a 20-0 lead.
In the second quarter VanDecker scored on a 2-yard run, Stevens went for 50 and Truman again from one yard away.
VanDecker capped the scoring in the third quarter with a 15-yard touchdown run.
“The focus this week was on the offensive and defensive lines,” Vikings coach Mark Soehren said, after getting beat on the line last week against Windham. “We dominated on the offensive and defensive line.”
The Vikings racked up 339 total yards, while holding the Rams (0-8) to 90.

Gray-New Gloucester 2, Fryeburg 0
GRAY — Sophomore forward Nick McCann scored off a deflection from a defender to lift Gray-New Gloucester to a 2-0 victory over Fryeburg in Class B South Prelim boys’ soccer action Friday afternoon.
Sophomore defender Jake Kackmiester nailed a rebound off the post with five minutes to go in the first half to put the No. 7 Patriots (8-6-1) up by two.
Goalie Will Zellis made seven saves for the No. 10 Raiders (6-9), while goalkeeper John-Henry Villanueva stopped one to earn the win in net for Gray-New Gloucester.
