What is the most pressing problem in your district and what do you plan to do about it?

The loss of the manufacturing in this town leaves a hole which I hope to help fill by taking advantage of our easy access to the large population centers here. I would like to see housing development around what is call “Agrihood,” a blending of organic farming and housing.

Gov. Paul LePage wants to eliminate the state income tax. Do you support that? If not, why not?

No, because all the user taxes I have seen proposed are regressive. Income tax, though not fun for any of us, takes more from those who have been successful in this country and more able to contribute.

Are you willing to support raising the fuel tax to fix Maine roads? If not, why not?

I’m not sure. Part of the problem is that with more and more hybrid and electric cars; this fuel tax no longer supports in an balanced way. I do though, agree we must do something to make Maine roads safer and our traveling better.

The relationship between the governor and the Legislature has deteriorated over the past six years. What can the Legislature do to improve that relationship?

Again, I’m not sure. It does seem as though the Legislature, both parties, have made more efforts than the governor. I believe it really comes down to a willingness to communicate and leave as many judgments outside.

What methods do you support to reduce opiate addiction in Maine?

Let us start by realizing that this is a health care crisis. I have had some experience with strong men’s work and that is a place I would start. A combination of tough love, but with strong support systems.
