What is the most pressing problem in your district and what do you plan to do about it?
There are too many people choosing between food, health care, and housing. We have increasing poverty and less job security. Many people are working two or more part-time jobs to provide for their families. We have people going without health care because our administration has refused federal funds. My plan is multifaceted.
Gov. Paul LePage wants to eliminate the state income tax. Do you support that? If not, why not?
No. I do not support eliminating state income tax. I support a fair share solution where corporations profiting off of the labor of our people and our natural resources pay their fair share of taxes. I would support elimination of corporate tax havens and tax loopholes.
Are you willing to support raising the fuel tax to fix Maine roads? If not, why not?
Yes. “Nobody likes potholes.” Some of our roads and bridges are in dire need of repair. Our infrastructure is critical to maintain.
The relationship between the governor and the Legislature has deteriorated over the past six years. What can the Legislature do to improve that relationship?
Working for the people of the state of Maine, we are accountable to the people. We must persevere in the face of adversity. We must continue to strive toward a “more perfect union.” I will continue to hear the concerns of Mainers and translate those concerns into constructive actions.
What methods do you support to reduce opiate addiction in Maine?
Substance abuse and addiction need to be treated humanely. Addiction is an illness. Opiate overdoses are often deadly. A human being requires access to medical care for treatment of this illness. Prevention, education, enforcement and recovery are important. The use of Narcan to reverse an overdose is a critical tool.
