NEWRY — The Town Office will open at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, rather than the usual 7 a.m., to accommodate those counting ballots the night before.
Deputy Clerk Kelly Scott said the town is as ready as it can be for the much-anticipated Election Day. There will be 13 election staff ready to hand-count the results.
The polls will be open from 8 a.m to 8 p.m Nov. 8 at the Town Office.
The deadline for absentee ballots is Nov. 3, and the town has already given out about 65.
In other business at their meeting Tuesday, selectmen looked into the Mountain House wedding venue on Sunday River Road because neighbor Randy Baker complained of excess noise continuing late into the night.
Code Enforcement Officer David Bonney said there was a potential home occupation noise ordinance violation, but further research is needed before action is taken.
“So if you’re a home business and you’re too loud, you’re no longer (considered) a home business,” Selectman Jim Largess said.
Bonney said that with different business classifications come with different noise allowances.
