CHESTERVILLE — Two teenagers are accused of breaking into the Chesterville Corner Store between Friday night and early Saturday and stealing $1,200 worth of beer, cigarettes and lottery tickets, according to Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr.
A baseball bat was used to forcibly enter the Dutch Gap Road store and caused $1,000 in damage to the establishment, Nichols wrote in a news release.
Two 17-year-olds from Chesterville were issued summonses on a felony juvenile charge of burglary, and charges of theft, criminal mischief, and theft by unauthorized use of property for taking a car without permission to commit the crime, Nichols wrote.
Deputies Andrew Morgan and Sandy Burke responded to a report of a burglary at the store at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
After collecting evidence from the scene, Morgan had suspects. He went to the Farmington Police Department and compared the evidence he had on hand with police there and determined that two teenagers from Chesterville were involved, Nichols wrote.
Morgan interviewed the teens and recovered all the missing items. He also recovered the baseball bat, Nichols wrote.
The teenagers were released to their parents’ custody.
