AUBURN — A local man has been charged in the apparent heroin overdose death of Amy Jo Flood, 38, of Auburn.
Marc Colello, 41, of 29 Washington Park Road has been charged with aggravated furnishing of a schedule W drug, according to a written statement from Auburn Deputy Chief Jason Moen.
Auburn police and fire responded to Colello’s home at 1 p.m. Monday for a reported overdose. They found Flood deceased in the apartment.
According to Moen, “Colello provided the heroin that Flood overdosed on.”
Colello is being held at the Androscoggin County Jail on $50,000 cash bail and is expected to make an appearance in 8th District Court later this week.
In 2003 in Brewer, Colello was charged with unlawful possession of a schedule D drug, but that charge was later dismissed as part of a plea deal. In that deal, he pleaded guilty to failure to appear after being bailed and was fined $250.
Auburn police were assisted by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in the investigation.
“Flood’s death marks the 32nd overdose incident and fifth overdose death in Auburn this year,” according to Moen. “Auburn police are committed to combating this epidemic that is killing our residents.”
Last year, Auburn police launched a series of community forums to connect families needing assistance with drug dependency issues to available community resources. Anyone needing resources can contact the department at AuburnHERO@auburnmaine.gov for a list of community resources.
