RUMFORD — Women who have served or are serving in the military will be honored and pampered by Napoleon Ouellette American Legion Post 24 on Saturday, Nov. 19.
The event begins at 9:30 a.m at the American Legion hall at 184 Congress St. It’s the fourth time Post 24 has held the event.
Joy Bordeau, chaplain and Americanism officer for the post, said it’s a day of pampering, honoring and recognizing all women from the military.
Bordeau said the idea came about thanks to “a wonderful woman,” Tricia Thurston, a member of the American Legion and a U.S. Navy veteran.
“It’s actually now spreading across the state; other Legion halls are doing this,” Bordeau said.
Veterans will be offered a breakfast buffet and pampered with manicures, hair care and massages. A lunch of lasagna, salad and garlic bread will be served.
Bordeau said Maine Sen.-elect Lisa Keim of Dixfield will be guest speaker.
There will also be a raffle of items such as gift baskets from local businesses and Wal-Mart gift cards.
All women veterans are invited to attend.
