PARIS — A Mexico woman with two prior convictions for drunken driving was sentenced to 30 days at Oxford County Jail after pleading guilty Wednesday to a third charge.
Wanda McAlister, 49, was arrested in October 2015 after she drove too fast while turning from Roxbury Road to Harlow Hill Road and crashed into the front porch of a home on Harlow Hill Road, police said.
Mexico Police Chief Roy Hodsdon said McAlister was charged with operating under the influence, failure to submit to arrest or detention, aggravated criminal mischief, escape and operating after license suspension.
Assistant District Attorney Joseph O’Connor said during Wednesday’s hearing in Oxford County Superior Court that in exchange for the guilty plea to OUI, all the other charges were dropped.
O’Connor said had the case gone to trial, the state would have submitted proof of two prior OUI convictions on McAlister’s record, and testimony from the Harlow Hill Road homeowner whose porch was destroyed.
McAlister was also ordered to pay a $1,100 fine after her release from Oxford County Jail, and will have her driver’s license and her right to register a vehicle suspended for six years.
