1. Bonny Eagle (10-0) (1)

The Scots thwarted away an upset bid by Scarborough that Thornton Academy couldn’t do the week before. The only unbeaten team in Class A now gets to try and finish a perfect season by beating Portland on its home turf.

2. Portland (9-1) (2)

The Bulldogs made it back to the state championship on the back of a comeback win over Windham. Portland won’t have to deal with powerhouse Thornton Academy this year, but Bonny Eagle is no slouch, either.

3. Brunswick (10-0) (3)

The way the Dragons played during their first nine games of the season, no one was sure if anybody could give them a game. Then Brewer gave them a nail-biter, but Brunswick hung on, 14-12, to make it back to the Class B state final.

4. Kennebunk (11-0) (4)

Kennebunk has been counted out all season in these rankings, despite being undefeated. The Rams will likely be underdogs against Brunswick in the Class B final, but don’t count them out pulling off an upset.

5. Thornton Academy (7-2) (7)

Sure the Trojans were upset in the playoffs by Scarborough, but they could still make a solid case when the season is over that they’re the second-best team in the whole state. Things just didn’t fall their way.

6. Wells (10-1) (10)

Wells got revenge against Cape Elizabeth, on opposing turf no less. Now the Warriors are back in the state final, looking to add a Class C crown to their Class B crown from 2011.

7. Brewer (8-2) (9)

Bravo, Brewer. Bravo. Brunswick had been rolling teams all year, but giving the Dragons a game with a trip to the state final on the line deserves lots of kudos. It was a great season for the Witches.

8. Mount Desert Island (9-1) (NR)

Winslow was the presumptive favorite in Class C North to start the season. Then the conference got muddled with three one-loss teams. The Trojans got revenge on the Black Raiders and are the ones left standing.

9. Cape Elizabeth (10-1) (8)

It was a banner year for the Capers. Except their undefeated season was derailed by Wells, and now there will be no regional or state championship banner.

10. Scarborough (8-3) (6)

The Red Storm only lost to Bonny Eagle (twice) and Thornton Academy (once, but got revenge). Maybe this is just the start of Scarborough being a regular title contender.
