Update: Police identify body of Naples shooting victim
CASCO — Two men are dead and a third wounded after shootings overnight in Casco and Naples, according to Maine State Police.
Police say the man being sought for the shooting in Casco was shot and killed after a confrontation with Cumberland County Deputies at a home in Naples.
Deputies discovered the body of a third man, also inside that mobile home.
State Police and the Maine Attorney General’s Office are now investigating.
The man shot by deputies was 59-year-old Norman Strobel of Naples.
He was at a mobile home on the Songo School Road in Naples. Police say Strobel ambushed police when they went inside the mobile home to help a man bleeding inside. Police are not identifying the man, but he lived at the mobile home and is 55 years old.
Deputies say they had been looking for Strobel after the first shooting late Saturday night at a camp on Winifred Lane in Casco in which a man staying inside was shot several times.
The wounded man, identified Sunday afternoon as Jason Almeida, 32, of Middletown, Rhode Island, was being treated at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. A woman, also staying inside the camp, escaped injury.
Deputies then went to the mobile home in Naples and exchanged gunfire with Strobel who was shot and killed.
No deputies were injured.
