HEBRON — Eliza Beaudin netted a hat trick and added an assist to pace Hebron Academy to a 5-3 victory over Governor’s Academy in their home opener in girls’ high school hockey action.

Governor’s (1-1) got on the board first with a quick goal just over a minute into the game. Beaudin tied the game with her first goal four minutes later. Lizz McKinnon netted the second goal of the period off an assist from Beaudin.

Beaudin opened the second period with her second goal just :35 seconds into the period. Peyton Spurr followed a minute later with an unassisted tally before Beaudin capped off her hat trick with her third goal of the game at the 5:51 mark giving Hebron a commanding 5-1 lead at the time. Emily Town made 18 saves in net for Hebron (1-1).

Women’s basketball

CMCC 68, Dean 57

The Central Maine Community College Mustangs held on to beat a talented Dean College squad, 68-57, on Saturday in Auburn.

After squandering an eight-point halftime lead, CMCC outscored the Bulldogs 21-12 in the final quarter to pull away.

Brooke Reynolds was solid again, finishing with another double-double (15 points, 15 rebounds) to go along with 5 steals. Jenny Schlim added16 points, five rebounds, and five assists, while Eraleena Gethers-Hairston halued in a career-high 13 rebounds while scoring eight points.

With the win, the Mustangs improve their record to 11-0 in USCAA play, and remain at the top of the USCAA (national) and YSCC standings.

Husson 60, Bates 44

BANGOR — Nina Davenport scored a team-high 13 points and Allie Coppola grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, but the Bates women’s basketball team fell, 60-44 to Husson University on Saturday.

The loss snaps an 18-game winning streak for Bates over Husson. It’s the first time the Eagles have defeated the Bobcats since 1991.

The Bobcats look to bounce back Tuesday when they visit Colby.

Men’s basketball

Bates 72, Husson 62

The Bates men’s basketball team rode the three-point shooting of freshman Tom Coyne in the first half and senior Jerome Darling in the second half, and withstood a late barrage of threes by the host Eagles, coming away with a 72-62 victory at Husson on Saturday afternoon.

Husson (3-1) suffered its first loss this season while Bates rose to 4-2.

Coyne had his career-high in points well before the end of the first half. He made 4-of-6 3-pointers in the opening period and added a fifth three early in the second half, finishing with 15 points.
