OTISFIELD — Administrative Assistant Anne Pastore said that the Christmas tree-lighting ceremony Dec. 3 at the Otisfield Community Hall was a success and went off without a hitch.
Pastore said she updated the Board of Selectmen Wednesday evening on how the ceremony went, since it was the first year that the ceremony was held at the Community Hall.
“We used to have the tree-lighting ceremony outside of the Otisfield Town Office, but we really outgrew the place,” Pastore said. “This is the first year that we had a ceremony at the Community Hall, and it was fabulous. Things went very well.”
She said the ceremony was meant to memorialize Lisa Rae Bean-Thurston, who died in childbirth at age 25 in March 1992.
The tree that is lit every year is known as the Lisa Bean-Thurston Memorial Tree. It was gifted to the town by the Grover-Bean family in 1992 to honor Bean-Thurston.
Pastore said that in preparation for the new venue, the town purchased a new tree from O’Donal’s Nursery in Gorham and hired Richardson Landscape Services in Oxford to plant the tree outside of the Community Hall.
“We planted it, put up fencing, and fixed up the outside and inside lights at the Community Hall,” Pastore said. “It looks really good.”
