Four senior starters return and others seem poised to thrive in bigger roles for Edward Little. If they do, the Red Eddies could challenge in Class AA.
Darby Shea and Wol Maiwen also figure heavily in the rotation. But coach Mike Adams believes he has more options to work with overall.
“We really have six guys playing starters’ minutes, but we probably have more depth than I’ve ever had,” he said.
The depth and athleticism could convince Adams to unleash his players more on the defensive end and press more. They will need to rebound and play unselfishly at the offensive end for him to loosen the reigns significantly.
Maiwen opened eyes during the off-season with his athleticism and 6-8 wing span. He will start the year as the sixth man but could crack the starting lineup eventually. Shea gives them another shooter off the bench.
Promising newcomers: Junior — Darby Shea (6-1 guard), Grant Hartley (6-3 forward), Terrell Thomas (6-2 forward), Alex Merchant (6-4 center); Sophomores —Wol Maiwen (6-4 forward), Ethan Brown (6-1 guard), Caleb Yarnevich (5-10 guard)’; Freshman — Storm Jipson (5-11 guard), Austin Brown (5-11 guard), Ahmen Abidir (5-9 guard).
