BANGOR — Several students from Maine’s 2nd District have been nominated to attend U.S. military service academies next year.

To be considered for appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by a member of Congress. Candidates were nominated to attend the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York.

Area students nominated included:

• Chase Harkins, Bethel, Gould Academy, to the U.S. Military Academy;

• Ethan Boucher, Rumford, Mountain Valley High School, U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy;

• John Pepin, Rumford, Mountain Valley High School, U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Naval Academy;

• Joseph Baumann, Leeds, Leavitt Area High School, U.S. Naval Academy; and

• Scott Pierce, Auburn, Buckfield High School, U.S. Naval Academy.
