FARMINGTON — United Way of the Tri-Valley Area announced that it has awarded $10,000 in funding to four local projects that met the grant criteria of being new, innovative and sustainable.
All funding for these programs is raised through generous contributions to United Way’s annual campaign.
Funding decisions are made by a diverse group of community members that volunteer for the United Way’s Community Investment Team. Additional community investments will be made this winter.
All programs must address community needs.
The four winning applicants are:
• Rangeley Friends of the Arts, for its after-school youth arts program, $5,000;
• Literacy Volunteers, parents of Head Start children tutoring program, $1,250;
• July L. Diaz, Jay Area Youth Food Pantry, $2,750; and
• Western Maine Storytelling, Neighbors Building Community Through Sharing Their Stories, $1,000.
“The caliber of the applications this year was excellent and the programs were wide-ranging,” noted Lisa Laflin, executive director of United Way of the Tri-Valley Area. “It was a difficult decision for the Community Investment Team to make.”
