Updated 2:30 p.m.: Police in Maine say a 21-year-old driver died in a crash on a snowy road in New Portland, Maine.

The crash took place at about 1:45 a.m. on Monday just as snow was beginning to accumulate on roads throughout northern New England. Police say Connie Graham, of Hampden, was the sole occupant of a vehicle that struck trees.

Police say it appeared the driver failed to negotiate a curve in a snowy road. A passing motorist discovered the crash scene and informed police.

Graham was pronounced dead at the scene.

The storm left nearly a foot of snow on the ground in some spots in the Great Lakes and upper Midwest before dumping up to about a half-foot across New York and northern New England.
