1926 – 2016

LEWISTON — Grace J. Laflamme, 90, of 10 Oak St., Lewiston, passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 11, at her home with family at her side.

She was born in St. Prosper, P.Q., Canada, on Sept. 21, 1926. Grace was the youngest of 12 children born to Albert and Delvina (Poulin) Rodrigue. She was educated in Canadian schools and moved to the United States at age 18. On Sept. 10, 1955, she married Louis N. Laflamme at Saints Peter and Paul Church and together they settled in Lewiston to raise their family. Louis passed away Nov. 24, 2002.

Upon coming to the United States, Grace worked at a paper mill in Augusta and later relocated to Lewiston and worked in the Hill Mill for 20 years until that mill closed. Afterward, she worked many more years in local shoe shops until her retirement from Billen Shoe in 1989.

Grace was a longtime member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul and La Rencontre. Among her favorite enjoyments were time with family, the several years she baby-sat her grandson, Travis, traveling with friends, playing cards, doing puzzles with her friends at Oak Park and shopping at Marden’s. She always loved a bargain. Grace was a lady of strong faith and very self-sufficient. She never had a driver’s license and walked everywhere she needed to go any time of the year. If her destination was too far, she took the city bus. She never liked depending on anyone. Grace was a loving, devoted and hardworking wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

She leaves her daughter, Gilda Dyke and husband, Jeffrey, of Lewiston; her grandson, Travis Dyke and wife, Haley, of Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.

Grace was predeceased by her husband, Louis Laflamme, in 2002; her son, Roger Laflamme, in 1987; and 11 brothers and sisters.
