The Black Bears led by as many as 10 points in the first half, and held a 36-28 advantage at halftime. The Bobcats opened the second half with a tone-setting and momentum-shifting 7-2 run. By the time there was 17:31 left in the game, they had tied the score at 40-40.

Maine outscored Quinnipiac 20-6 in the paint in the opening half, but the Bobcats flipped the script after the break, outscoring the Black Bears down low 20-16 in the second half.

Maine’s Wes Myers had another big day off the bench, scoring 21 points. He put up 31 against Dartmouth last weekend.

Oxford Hills graduate Andrew Fleming finished with 11 points for the Black Bears on 4 of 9 shooting. He also grabbed eight rebounds.

Maine (4-7) next faces Providence College on the road Tuesday night.

Bates 68, St. Joseph’s 58

STANDISH — Bates College beat St. Joseph’s on Sunday afternoon, 68-58, for its third consecutive win over its instate rivals.

The Delpeches paced the Bobcats. Marcus Delpeche had a team-high 15 points and blocked three shots. Malcolm Delpeche added 11 points. He also led Bates with seven rebounds and four assists.

Former Edward Little standout Quin Leary added 11 points and made 4 of 5 attempts from 3-point range. The Bobcats, as a team, made 12 of 27 from beyond the arc.

Bates (6-3), which hasn’t played since Dec. 10, is off until Dec. 29 when it faces Farmingdale State at the NYU Men’s Basketball Classic in New York City.
