1934 – 2016

NORWAY — Thomas C.W. “Tom” Belanger, courageously and peacefully passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, at the Norway Rehabilitation Center, under the care of Beacon Hospice.

He was born the middle child to Albert and Marjorie (Perkins) Belanger on Sept. 28, 1934. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rosemary (Knee) Belanger; his son, Lance Belanger and wife, Lisa Belanger; his son, Jon Belanger and companion, Shellie Paradis; his son, Mark Belanger and companion, Tammy Weston; and three grandchildren, Brooks Belanger, Libby Belanger and Trevor Belanger.

He was predeceased by his two brothers, Bradley Belanger and Albert Belanger Jr.

Born and raised in Oxford, Tom graduated from Oxford High School in 1953, where he was a star varsity basketball player all four years. One of his proudest accomplishments was winning the Most Valuable Player award in the state basketball tournament on a team that only reached the semi-finals his senior year.

After serving in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, Tom was employed in various occupations in the Norway-Paris region. Upon marrying Rosemary in 1964, Tom settled and raised his family in the Connecticut cities of Seymour and Ansonia, where he was employed at the 3M Corp. Tom moved his family back to Maine in 1976, and eventually settled in Norway from 1980 to the present, where Tom was employed as a shipping and receiving clerk at F.W. Woolworth in South Paris, until his retirement in 1993. He continued to work other part-time jobs over the next three years.

Tom had a passion for following sports, playing golf, reading the daily newspapers and finding connections with anyone he would meet. Tom will be remembered as a fiercely devoted husband, father and grandparent. Tom had a contagious sense of humor, was an intentional conversationalist, enjoyed many good times with friends and family, and known for always having love in his heart, especially for family. He was blessed by the enduring and patient care of his wife, Rosemary.
