LEWISTON — A Lewiston teenager has pleaded guilty to the July 4th stabbing of another Lewiston teen.
Kamari Solomon, 19, pleaded guilty last week to assault and was sentenced to 119 days in jail, all of it time served. He was also ordered to pay a $300 fine.
Solomon had been charged with aggravated assault and elevated aggravated assault, but those were dismissed in favor of pleading guilty to the lesser charge of assault. Had he been convicted, Solomon could have been sentenced to 30 years in prison for elevated aggravated assault and up to 10 years in prison for aggravated assault.
Police said Solomon stabbed 18-year-old Mouamed Mouamed multiple times in his lower abdomen and arms on July 4. Police found Mouamed around noon in the area of 129 Pierce St. and he was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he underwent surgery and was later released.
Police found a knife in bushes near 146 Pierce St., according to a police report. The police report also said that Solomon’s mother, Tanisha, told police her son stabbed Mouamed and that she had tried to stop him.
“My son called me saying somebody pulled a knife on him . . . by the time I caught up to him, he had already cut the dude,” Tanisha Solomon said in her written statement to police.
She later filed a lawsuit against Lewiston police, claiming an officer banged her against a wall and dragged out of her apartment during the search for her son.
Mouamed told police he and Solomon had a “beef” that began when they were both at Long Creek Youth Development Center, a South Portland detention center for juveniles. He said Solomon started a fight with him on July 4 and that he was stabbed while walking up Pierce Street afterward.
