LEWISTON — The YWCA Central Maine will offer a Level One Self-Defense Class for women.

The course will be taught by Sensei Sadie Landry of Pelletier’s Karate Academy. Landry has more than 25 years of experience training in self-defense and the martial arts.

The course will offer simple and practical self-protection techniques that promote awareness of one’s surroundings and inner confidence. It will be open to all women ages 15 and older.

Classes will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Mondays beginning Jan. 9 at the YWCA at 130 East Ave.

The cost of the class is $60, and scholarships are available. Registration is required.
