A storm started late Tuesday and was weakening Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service forecast as much as 8 inches of snow possible. The less-than-expected snowfall allowed Auburn to end its parking ban at 11 a.m. Wednesday — four hours earlier than originally announced.
Meteorologist James Brown says the coastal storm will head out to sea before causing heavier accumulations or spreading in to western New Hampshire and northern Maine.
The heaviest snow ended before dawn, but made for a messy commute.
