WESTBROOK — Police say a car crashed into the Stroudwater River from Spring Street in Westbrook, killing one person.
Police arrived at the accident after a call by a passerby around 10 a.m. Sunday, but they are not sure when the car went off the road, off a guardrail and landed on its roof submerged in the river.
Westbrook police chief has confirmed at least one fatality. A body was submerged underwater in the vehicle, and police searched the river for more victims.

Police identified the victim as 22-year-old Fouad Abdullah of Westbrook.
The vehicle was pulled out of the river Sunday afternoon. Spring Street was closed for hours as police reconstructed the accident,.
The medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The accident remains under investigation.
