LEWISTON — New Ventures Maine is offering classes to help local residents get job training. The classes are free but require registration.
Intro to Self-Employment Workshop — 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Lewiston CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way. The workshop will help people decide if self-employment is the right choice. The class covers the pros and cons of owning a business, the steps needed to get started, the major elements of a business plan and the many resources available to help a person succeed.
Business Basics — 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, Feb. 15, 22 and March 1, at USM LAC, 51-55 Westminster St., Lewiston. This three-session class covers the basics of a business plan, marketing and cash planning, and is suitable for those thinking about or who are in the early stage of starting a new business. It will help attendees assess the feasibility, desirability and viability of a business idea and start writing a plan.
