JAY — A local man is accused of assisting Michael Gatcomb of Livermore Falls, who is wanted by several police agencies, get a car on Jan. 8 and hindering and delaying his apprehension.
Officer Dylan Rider arrested Toney B. Johnson, 29, on Friday at his residence on Hidden Circle. An arrest warrant charges him with two counts of misdemeanor hindering apprehension or prosecution, Detective Michael Mejia said Monday.
“We have reason to believe (Johnson) assisted in providing transportation to Michael Gatcomb and that he has knowingly hindered or delayed discovery or apprehension of Michael Gatcomb by all investigating law enforcement agencies,” he said.
A car that Gatcomb was believed to have been driving late Jan. 8 was not reported stolen, Mejia said.
The car failed to stop for police in Rumford and continued through several towns and into Jay, where it ran over spike mats which deflated two tires. It kept going and was discovered abandoned on Bamford Hill Road in Fayette on Jan. 9.
A Jay police investigation led to Johnson’s arrest.
Rumford police received a tip that Gatcomb, who is wanted by New Hampshire State Police for failing to stop on Interstate 95 in New Hampshire and Maine on Dec. 21, 2016, would be in the Rumford area on Jan. 8 and what vehicle he would be driving.
Gatcomb is described as 6 feet tall, weighing 190 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.
Besides Livermore Falls and Jay, he is known to frequent Bath, Fayette and Franklin and Washington counties.
Johnson was released on $250 cash bail Saturday from Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington.
