DEAR SUN SPOTS: We would like to show our children 35mm slides we have of them when they were small. We have a Vivatar slide projector which takes s-100 rotary trays. We have just a few of these trays and need more. Does anyone have any that they no longer use? We’re willing to pick them up and pay a reasonable price for them. My telephone number is 207-346-3891. Thank you. — Barbara Harris, Minot.

ANSWER: If anyone has these rotary trays and would be willing to sell them, please contact Barbara. These trays are also available online through Amazon and eBay.

If you are still having trouble locating the pieces that you need for your slideshow, another option is converting your old slides to a digital format. This service is available through most photo processing stores, including CVS Pharmacies and Photo Finish in the Auburn Mall. There is also a scanner available for consumers to purchase that scans slides or film and converts them to a digital file that you can keep on your computer or burn onto a DVD. These scanners generally cost between $100 and $200 dollars and are available in electronics stores or online.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Bolster Heights would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who donated and responded to our holiday letter. Because of the overwhelming generosity of your readers we were hoping that someone might have a greeting card rack that they no longer need. We would like to be able to display the many beautiful cards we were given and place them on a rack for our residents to have access to them when they are in need of a card. Also, we are still accepting any and all donations of cards, holiday decorations and supplies for our resident birthday gifts such as toiletries, hair accessories, word search books, anything that would make a great birthday gift for them. We would also like to have a beauty hour on our calendars, so we are looking for cosmetic jewelry, wigs, unused make-up and unused perfume. Call 207-784-1364 ext. 130 for more information. Thank you again. — Debbie Purcell, activities director at Bolster Heights Residential Care.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Every year the Woman’s Literary Union of Auburn awards a scholarship to a deserving senior student who is planning a career in the fine arts. This year the amount of the scholarship is $500. Letters and applications have been mailed to guidance counselors at all of the high schools of Androscoggin County. These applications must be received by April 3 at the address provided in the letter along with a few items: an essay, high school transcript and letters of recommendation. The subject of the essay is “why I wish to have a career in fine arts and need financial assistance” and should be 500 words or less. The scholarship amount will be sent to the college bursar after the winner has successfully earned a 2.0 or better GPA for his/her first semester. The WLU asks parents of senior high school students who are interested in a career in the fine arts to encourage your students to apply.

On June 3 the WLU will hold a garage sale as a fundraiser for this scholarship at the clubhouse, 19 Elm St. in Auburn. — Dot, Auburn.
