PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A massive snowstorm on the day before Valentine’s Day is making for a busy day for florists in the Northeast.
The day before Valentine’s Day is always a busy day in floral shops, but many were unable to open in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont on Monday because of a blizzard that dumped 2 feet of snow on some towns.
The snow day means Tuesday, which is Valentine’s Day, has become the busy day. The Kennebec Journal reports many florists in Maine are hoping they can avoid delivery delays as they dig out of the blizzard.
One Westbrook, Maine, florist says she expected close to 1,000 deliveries on Tuesday. The florist, Karin Allen of Harmon’s & Barton’s, estimated about 90 percent of orders are made at the last minute.
